“The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here.”   You were mistaken, Mr. President. Every November we still remember, and honor, both what was said and what was done there.

Dedication Day Joint Resolution for November 19, 1946


An important piece of the National Cemetery is the Soldiers National Monument. The dedication ceremony was conducted on July 1, 1869 and featured the Oration of Hon. O. P. Morton, address of Major-General George G. Meade, and poem of Bayard Taylor
